Seam puckers or waves: find the right setting

Puckering is not always excess tension. Needle size, stitch density, foot pressure and fabric stretch can all distort the seam.

03Step

Check in this order

  1. 01
    Step 1

Test the same fabric and thread on a scrap before changing the project seam.

  2. 02
    Step 2

Fit a suitable fine or stretch needle and choose a slightly longer stitch.

  3. 03
    Step 3

Return tension to the manual’s normal range and reduce foot pressure only if the model allows it.

  4. 04
    Step 4

Support the fabric so its weight does not pull, and let the feed dogs move it without stretching.

04

What should restore normal sewing

The test seam should lie flat after relaxing, without loose loops on either side.

Use stabiliser or a suitable foot when the fabric itself remains unstable.
