Needle threader not working: what to check first

A built-in needle threader only lines up within a narrow range. Needle position, size and installation should be checked before the mechanism is forced.

03Step

Check in this order

  1. 01
    Step 1

Switch off the machine, remove the fabric and raise the needle to its highest position with the handwheel in the direction stated in the manual.

  2. 02
    Step 2

Confirm that the needle is straight, fully inserted in the correct orientation and within the size range accepted by the model’s threader.

  3. 03
    Step 3

Thread the upper path again, lower the presser foot if the manual requires it and place the thread under the threader guide without pulling it tight.

  4. 04
    Step 4

Lower the lever gently once. If the hook aligns with the eye, release it slowly and draw the loop through by hand.

04

What should restore normal sewing

Replace a bent, blunt or unsupported needle with the correct system and size for the machine and fabric.

Manually thread a size 65/9, twin, wing or other needle whenever the model manual excludes it from the built-in threader.
